Reflecting on IT changes over the past 20 years got me thinking: What hasn’t changed? Certain elements have stood the test of time, managing to outlast countless trends and fads.

Aber Instruments Ltd, had been using Sophos SafeGuard Enterprise for several years to secure their sensitive data. Due to the end-of-life announcement for the software, they needed to find an alternative solution.

Just five or six years ago, VoIP was still considered a “different” type of business phone system. One that wasn’t the norm. But the pandemic changed that way of thinking.

These past few months have certainly been challenging for us all. Home working, remote access, digital world of zoom and teams to aid our social distancing interactions are now all part of our day to day life.

Here at 5C we are big fans of Microsoft and in particular - Microsoft Teams.

This has been the main app we have used in our business to keep communication lines open and ensure everyone is working together.

H. Vaughan Vaughan & Co required us to upgrade their aging Server 2003 and Windows XP environment to a modern server, PC and cloud based email setup. From this they were to gain a much quicker and efficient system which would improve workflow and productivity.

Focus on Forestry First Ltd expanded their office space into an adjoining section of the building. Network and phone points were installed to accommodate existing and new PC’s, along with enabling server relocation.

“I’m covered, we backup all of our key data to the cloud, covering us in the event of a disaster or system failure”.

 It’s an answer we hear a lot but we sometimes its best to re-ask the question:

“In the event of disaster or complete server(s) failure how long can your company be down for?”

Makefast Ltd, are a design and manufacturing company based in Mid Wales producing equipment for the marine and safety industries who were operating on an aging system and rapidly reaching the limits of computing and storage resources available, especially after they experienced a rapid growth in business.

5c Services were thrilled and honoured to receive the award, sponsored by Myrick Training, at the awards dinner held at The Hafren, Newtown on 28th of September 2018. What an incredible night it was!

Earlier this year 5c Services were asked by another Outsourced IT support company in London to help out due to other staff commitments they had.  As we have provided this service numerous times in the past we were happy to assist.

We began to work with Trax in in February 2018, provide support for their systems to deliver increased security measures and performance.

Here at 5c Services we take our social responsibilities seriously and we always look at different ways we can engage and do our bit to support local community.

The method of VoIP is not new,  for years people have been making voice calls over the internet but still assume that office phone systems should remain on ISDN connections.

Puffin Produce Ltd needed to map out and mark each CAT5e and CAT6e network cable that ran from within their communications cab to the rest of the business prior to major works being carried out that require the server and communications cabinet locations to be changed.

It was the famous philosopher Taylor Swift that said “This is a new year. A new beginning. And things will change” and although we got the ‘new year’ bit wrong we, at 5c Services decided to redesign and update the 5c Services office. 

The garden furniture is being packed away, the factor 50 sun tan lotion is being put into the drawer and those linen shorts that you were told made you look ‘young and cool’ are being firmly put back into the cupboard, so you know, that winter is coming.
